Enjoy a delicious cup of matcha tea and views of the fall foliage in our Japanese garden

Visitors can enjoy the beautiful Japanese garden at the Kikuya Family Residence, once home to wealthy merchants during the Edo period. Try your hand at making your own matcha tea using traditional tea ceremony ware and Hagi Yaki pottery. We will carefully guide you through each step, so beginners are also very welcome. Come and make a delicious cup of matcha tea and take a break from your busy life.

Enjoy the Kikuya Family Residence as you step back in time to the Edo period and refresh yourself with a cup of matcha tea.

The Kikuya Family Residence, a registered National Important Cultural Property

The Residence of the Kikuya family, who were granted the title of goyotatsu, or official merchants of the Mori family during the Edo Period. Five buildings in the residence have been listed on the National Register of Important Cultural Properties.

Both the exterior and interior of the Kikuya Family Residence offer beautiful views of Hagi Castle Town. You can also enjoy all stages of the autumn foliage at our garden.

Matcha and the Japanese tea ceremony were once part of the Kikuya family’s daily life. Serving matcha to all their guests was, and still is, a precious experience that brings people together.
