Enjoy Hagi’s local cuisine and Bakumatsu Bread at one of Japan’s largest wooden schoolhouses
Come and learn all about Hagi with us at the Meirin Gakusha Visitor Center! A dedicated guide will take you on a tour of the Former Hagi Domain School Meirinkan, the Meirin Elementary School Exhibition Rooms, the Bakumatsu Museum, and the Hagi World Heritage Site Visitor Center. Afterwards, return to a restored classroom and enjoy a nostalgic lunch featuring Hagi’s local cuisine, served in aluminum tableware reminiscent of traditional Japanese school lunches, along with Bakumatsu Bread, a type of portable ration once carried on the battlefield.
