Savor the Spring Water of Ohitayama and the Flavors of Fukue
In this hands-on experience, you will brew your own coffee using spring water from around the Ohitayama Tatara Iron Works, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Sites of Japan’s Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining.” As you experience the natural bounty that once supported the tatara ironmaking industry, enjoy a special moment with a sablé cookie made with blueberries grown in the Fukue area of Hagi. After the experience, you’ll also receive a souvenir from Yamada Fruit Farm. This limited-time autumn experience lets you discover the flavors of Hagi’s history and rural landscape through all five senses.

Treasures Found Here
Ohitayama Tatara Iron Works
These are the remains of an iron works that operated during the Edo period. Using a blast furnace called a tatara, this traditional method produced iron from iron sand and charcoal. The iron produced here helped support the Hagi Domain’s Western-style shipbuilding.
Ohitayama Tatara Blend Coffee
Roasted and blended by Yamada Fruit Farm, this coffee was inspired by Ohitayama Tatara Iron Works. The coffee is also served once a month at the Yamada Fruit Farm food truck at Hagi Marche, a monthly farmers market in Hagi.
Yamada Fruit Farm’s Sablé Cookies
A popular product from Yamada Fruit Farm, these sablé cookies are made with jam from Hagi-grown fruit and wheat flour from Yamaguchi Prefecture.
