Experience Hagi’s scenic landscapes through seasonal Japanese sweets

Like the celebrated “Eight Views of Omi” and “Eight Views of Kanazawa,” Hagi, too, has its own set of “Eight Views.” These “Eight Views” are traditional scenic spots historically admired for their beauty and often immortalized in paintings and poetry. While some locations have changed over time, many still offer stunning views today. The Eight Views of Hagi are treasured for their cultural significance, offering insight into the town’s history and the tradition of scenic selection in Japan.

In this tea gathering, you’ll enjoy carefully prepared Japanese sweets inspired by the Eight Views of Hagi, served alongside tea. It’s a chance to experience Hagi’s culture, art, and natural beauty in one relaxing moment—perfect for enriching your stay or inspiring your next journey through the town’s scenic spots.

Meet the Host

Honami Imayasu | Kako 176

Hello! I moved here from Shiga Prefecture last year, and I now make wagashi at Cafe & Restaurant Kako 176 in the Hamasaki area of Hagi. Here, I strive to make wagashi that capture Hagi’s seasonal beauty.

I hope you enjoy the rich tales behind the Eight Views of Hagi, paired with delicate Japanese confections.

Schedule

  2. Explore the history and stories behind the Eight Views of Hagi
  3. Enjoy some Japanese sweets inspired by the Eight Views of Hagi
  4. Relax with a cup of tea to go with your sweets
  5. Finish

Please note: the schedule above is a rough guideline, and may change due to certain situations or weather on the day.

Photo Gallery

The heart of Hagi is built on a triangular delta, around which the Eight Views of Hagi are arranged. The Japanese sweets you’ll enjoy during the tea gathering are inspired by these scenic spots—please look forward to what kind of designs we’ve come up with!
The sunset visible from Tsurue is one of the Eight Views of Hagi that has remained unchanged over time. It’s close to Kako 176, so why not take a moment to visit?
As you enjoy the sweets, let the landscapes come to mind; or as you envision the landscapes, let the sweets delight your palate. We hope this experience brings you a peaceful and memorable moment!
