Welcome to the new—yet somewhat familiar—meeting place in town
Sanmi is a village that prospered as an inn town along the Akamagaseki Highway during the Edo period. Within this quaint village are Kosandou, a small community center, and Kaname, a holiday rental—both originally “Akiya,” or old-style Japanese houses that were vacant for some time. Having been renovated by Kou himself, they are now open to the public! Come for a visit and learn all about the Akiya houses of Japan and their potential, ideas on how to renovate your own Akiya, and more. Let’s discover the charm of traditional Japanese houses together over a cup of coffee and some Obanyaki!

Treasures Found Here
The charming red roof-tiled home, Kosandou
Originally built 100 years ago, Kou renovated the traditional Japanese house himself and now uses it as both his own home and a shop selling various goods.
The holiday rental Kaname was built 50 years ago and was also completely renovated by Kou himself.
Sanmi and the Akamagaseki Highway
The road right in front of Kosandou and Kaname was originally an Edo period highway connecting the castle town of Hagi with Shimonoseki City.
Sanmi Bridge
A beautiful stone bridge built in 1914, within a short walking distance from Kosandou and Kaname. It is one of the biggest stone-built arch bridges in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
