Hagi Castle and its town were founded around 420 years ago when the Mori lord first came to Hagi. Soon after, Hagi Yaki pottery was born and remains a popular traditional craft of Japan to this day. Join us this fall for a walk around the Hagi Castle Ruins and try your hand at making Japanese matcha tea in a Hagi yaki tea cup, surrounded by nature and the sea.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Hagi Yaki Pottery<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

    Hagi’s local pottery, loved by the Mori lords long ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The clay is made from local weathered granite formed by magma activity 100 million years ago. The soft texture of the pottery makes it a popular choice in the Japanese tea ceremony. You can learn all about its origins at this event.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The Ruins of Hagi Castle<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

    Where do the stones of the castle’s walls come from?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    All that remains is the stonework of the castle built by the Mori clan. As we walk through the castle grounds, you will have the opportunity to learn about the wisdom and building methods of our ancestors.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    The source of the granite used for Hagi Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Located just behind the castle ruins, Mt. Shizukiyama was formed from granite as a result of intense volcanic activity 100 million years ago.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
